St Andrew Square Gardens (Edinburgh) lighting is complete and only has a few snagging items remaining. The gardens are open to the public and they are proving very popular.

The contractor has started on site on the Grassmarket Public Real Project (Edinburgh) and the lighting installation should begin later this year.

The relighting of St Machar's Cathedral in Aberdeen with LDN architects is at scheme design stage. It is likely that the project will be extended to include the relighting of the exterior of the cathderal.

The visitor centre and museum for Dunblane Cathedral with EDO Design has been on the cards for a long time, but it has now got the green light to proceed.

Malcolm is currently working with Gavin Fraser Foto-MA on the lighting for the major refurbishment of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh with Page & Park Architects. Gavin and Malcolm are former collegues from Jonathan Speirs and Associates. The project is currently at scheme design stage.

Alison Ritter of the Professional Lighting Design Association has invited Malcolm to speak at the Light Middle East conference in Dubai at the end of May. The subject of Malclm's papaer will be 'Light Art and Architecture'.

A quick appointment and very short design schedule will mean a fast turn-around for the lighting design in the client suite of the new Morton Fraser Soliciters building in Edinburgh. The Foster + Partners building is part of the Quartemile Development in Edinburgh. Design of the fit out for Morton Fraser is by Simon Laird Associates.

Two new projects coming up with Gillespies will further add to the list of public realm and masterplanning projects.

Malcolm has been asked to create a major new light art project as part of Scotland's 2009 Homecoming Year celebrations. The project is still in the planning stages, but more details will come later this year when finance is secured.

Between 2 Worlds - 17 nights of magical light, sound and music amongst the trees of Glenmore Forest - is now over.

We are still working through photographs and video of the event, but some previews are now on this site.

The photos are all stored in the 'Photography' folder on the left of this screen. They are sorted into a number of galleries:

Setting Up - photos taken prior to the event of the installation and set up.
Lochan Setup - photos taken of the construction of the viewing platforms and the installation of the water effects for the main show at the Lochan
Event Photos - night time images taken during the event.
Mike Bolam's photography - we commissioned Mike to document the installation and the first couple of nights of performance, this is a very small selection of Mike's images.

Between 2 Worlds is a major environmental art project by Malcolm Innes and Diane Maclean. This temporary event takes visitors on a night time walk through the Glenmore forest near Aviemore.

Using light, sound, music and water, the project explores the relationship between the ancient and modern woodland, the people who lived and worked the land and the myths and legends that bound the community to this magical place.

Tickets for the event can be purchased online through the Forestry Commission website.

Whilst on holiday visiting friends in Orkney, I was happy to oblige and take a few project shots of the new extension to the Scapa Distillery by our good friend Architect Leslie Burgher of Pentarq.

Leslie has now left Pentarq and has set up his own Chartered Architect practice based in Kirkwall.

A selection of photos can be seen in the Scapa Distillery gallery.

Planning consent has been granted for the Tidal Clock projection that will mark the Eastern gateway into Clydebank.  The project was commissioned by Clydebank Rebuilt and is supported by landscape architects, Gillespies.

The project now enters the construction phase and completion is expected before the end of the year.

The Tidal Clock will provide a visual representation of the state of the tide - a subtle reminder of the pivotal role of the shipyards in the founding of the town.

This photography commission came from Kevan Shaw Lighting Design and was to photograph their work at the newly opened Tigerlilly boutique hotel, bar and restaurant in Edinburgh's George Street.

The photographs were to be used to enter the project into prestigious international lighting design awards and in marketing work for the practice.

The commission was quite fast track to catch the award submission dates and required both a daytime and night time shoot to capture the ambiance of the various spaces at different times of day.

The full set of images can be browsed in the Tigerlilly daytime and Tigerlilly evening galleries

This the second Kevan Shaw Lighting Design project photographed having completed a shoot towards the end of last year for the external lighting of the new Royal Bank of Scotland site at Gogar in Edinburgh.
